Summerside Lobster Festival – July 18th – 24th!

April 21, 2016 – Summerside, PE

Summerside Lobster Festival brings more entertainment and lobster to its annual community event!

The 2015 edition of the Summerside Lobster Festival included entertainment on an outdoor waterfront stage, a parade, midway, Beach volleyball and much more all on the Festival Grounds at Green’s Shore.  Steeped in tradition of celebrating the community, its culture and history with world famous PEI lobster, this event has been bringing residents and visitors together to enjoy family fun in Summerside for years.

At 10am, Thursday, April 21st at Credit Union Place, the Summerside Lobster Festival revealed some of it’s programming of activities. This year’s week-long Festival (July 18-24) will offer more music, community fun, cultural events /activities, themed days, an expanded midway and two world class sporting events to its annual line-up!

This years’ event will be bigger and better and include more entertainment, activities and lobster! The Summerside Lobster Festival is being presented in part by Cavendish Farms, the City of Summerside, the Government of Canada through Department of Canadian Heritage, the Province of Prince Edward Island and is supported by local associations, organizations, corporate sponsors as well as Friends of the Festival.

The partnership between the Shediac Lobster Festival and Summerside Lobster Festival will continue this year and see both Festivals sharing activities and support. One of the highlights of last year will be at the Festival again: the Kids Summer Fun Zone will feature Sandcastle Building and the ever popular LEGO Lobster zone. Advanced discounted tickets for the midway will be made available through, and in support of, Generation XX as will Friends of the Festival packages for families and corporations. The themed days include Youth Talent day, Celtic Day, Acadian Day; Mi’Kmaq Cultural Day and DiverseCity Festival.

“I am very proud of the City of Summerside’s Lobster Festival. It is a wonderful event that celebrates all that is great about our community, our music, our food, our heritage and our culture. It is also an excellent investment of municipal resources. This year we project that our investment of $25,000 will lead to economic spin offs for Summerside in excess of $1.5 million.  This event is good  for our entire community, our residents, visitors, our businesses and our economy.  Reach out to all your off-Island family and friends and encourage them to “come home” for the Lobster Festival. Let’s make this year’s festival the best one ever “ states Mayor Bill Martin.

A partnership with the East Coast Music Association, Music PEI and Festival of Small Halls will feature a theme day offering performances by several Atlantic Canadian artists on the outdoor waterfront stage. The event will be book-ended by two world class sporting events: the 2nd annual Tri-Lobster triathlon (a world championship qualifying triathlon July 17) and Sandjam Summerside, a national beach volleyball tournament (July 22-24) on the Festival Grounds at Green’s Shore.

“We are very excited about this year’s line-up of family, sporting activities and artists that will be at the Lobster Fest” said Don Quarles, Executive Director of the Summerside Lobster Festival “We plan to include many of the traditional events and are pleased to bring additional activities this year to the festival and very happy to include performers from across Atlantic Canada in a partnership with the East Coast Music Association and Music PEI.”
