Celebrity Chef Matt Dean Pettit comes to Lobster Festival!

Matt's cookbookFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 13, 2015 – Summerside, PE

“Celebrity Chef all about LOBSTER and coming to Summerside Festival this year “

After a successful first year being rebranded as the Summerside Lobster Festival, the event is further expanding the culinary component of the week long festivities. The organizers are bringing in a surprise Celebrity Chef to do demonstrations, appearances and much more. Chef Matt Dean Pettit, is the author of the best-selling “The Great Lobster Cookbook”, the owner of three Rock Lobster Restaurants and on Food Network with Super Snack Brothers and he will be at the Lobster Festival from July 23-25.

“The addition of Chef Matt Dean Pettit to the event will be a huge draw and will help raise the profile for PEI lobster and the Festival” said Don Quarles, Executive Director of the Summerside Lobster Festival. “Matt loves everything about lobster and is looking forward to sharing his experience with us here on the island”.

“We are very optimistic the Festival’s increased culinary component and focus on lobster will draw more off-Island visitation,” said Minister of Economic Development and Tourism Heath MacDonald. “The Island’s delicious lobster is an incredibly important part of Canada’s Food Island, and a major export product.  By further showcasing our lobster with the addition of a celebrity chef, and additional culinary events, we expose an even greater number of people to one of the Island’s most delicious foods.”

Chef Matt will be doing demonstrations, talking about all things PEI lobster, doing signings of the Great Lobster Cookbook July 23-25 at Green’s Shore in the Confederation Bridge Main Tent. The Chef will be making a special appearance at Chrome and Crustaceans event on July 24th, which features comedian Jimmy Flynn. The Chef’s best-selling Lobster cookbook is available at City Hall in Summerside and at Credit Union Place and will be available for purchase at all of his events including cookbook signings at the Sobeys and Foodland stores in Summerside. Details of his appearances will be made available online.

“It is with great pleasure that the City of Summerside welcomes Chef Matt Dean Pettit as part of the Summerside Lobster Festival’s culinary events. We welcome his cooking demos, involvement in the Great Canadian Chowder contest and getting signed copies of his “Great Lobster Cookbook”. Chef Matt’s presence will raise the calibre and interest in PEI’s premier Lobster event. Thanks to all our supporting sponsors for helping to bring Chef Pettit to our City.” Said City of Summerside Mayor Bill Martin

“Hey Prince Edward Island! I’m excited to be part of Summerside festival’s new culinary component to explore all things PEI Lobster! As we know, all things are better with a little island love. See you all soon!” Chef Matt Dean Pettit

Summerside Lobster Festival Brings Cultural, Community and Culinary Activities to its Annual Event

Summerside, PEI – 2014 saw the rebranding of the event as the Summerside Lobster Festival and included new components, a waterfront location along with some traditional activities. The 2015 edition of the Summerside Lobster Festival’s week-long Festival (July 20-25) will offer community fun, cultural events /activities and culinary components including celebrity chef demonstrations, food samplings, special themed days, a mini midway for kids and families and much more. Steeped in tradition of celebrating the community, its culture and history with world famous PEI lobster, this event has been bringing residents and visitors together to enjoy family fun in Summerside for years.

On Tuesday, April 14TH at 11:00am at the Credit Union Place, the events and activities for the City’s annual Lobster Festival were announced and unveiled. This years’ event is being supported by local associations, organizations, corporate sponsors as well as Friends of the Festival and plans for an action packed week filled with family fun, entertainment and lots of Lobster are underway!

“I am pleased that the City supports this annual Festival and am thrilled to hear about some of the partnerships that have been developed with local organizations for this years’ event” said Mayor Bill Martin.

The themed days include Acadian Day with La Belle-Alliance; Mi’Kmaq Cultural Day with the Mi’Kmaq Confederacy of PEI and DiverseCity Festival with the PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada. New this year is an outdoor waterfront stage for entertainment, a Mini Midway for kids and families; Vendors and artisans, Lobster Fishing Boat Races and culinary components with LOBSTER demonstrations, samples and contests.

A reciprocal partnership with the Shediac Lobster Festival, that started in 2014 will continue this year and see individuals sharing lobster dinners. Back by popular demand are the Kids Summer Fun Zone, Sandcastle Building, Geocaching, Musical entertainment, Family Outdoor Movie nights and traditional Lobster Festival events: lobster trap challenge, cardboard boat races, Cox and Palmer soap box derby.

“We are excited about providing a combination of traditional events with newly created activities based on the community and visitor response from previous years. GO LOBSTER will be bigger and better. Last year, 18 specialty lobster menu items were featured AND thousands of lobster dishes were served up at participating Summerside restaurants. We can’t wait to see what area restaurant chefs come up with this year”. said Don Quarles, Executive Director of the Summerside Lobster Festival.

National sponsor LEGO Canada has been secured and local sponsors have already started to show their support. The Friends of the Festival campaign will be getting underway in the coming weeks, allowing individuals and families to support the Festival.
